With all precincts reporting, voters supported the $109.5 million Willis ISD school bond referendum, according to unofficial voting results.
With 2,328 votes, 60 percent of voters, favored the referendum while 1,524
residents, or 40 percent of voters, opposed it.
School bond funds will be used to build a new elementary school campus at the southeast corner of MP Clark and League Line roads and to purchase land for future schools. The district will also use school bond funds to pay for enhancement projects at Willis High School and Brabham Middle School, new turf at Berton A. Yates Stadium and pickup and drop-off lane improvements at several campuses.
“We want to thank everyone who exercised their right to vote," Superintendent Tim Harkrider said. "We appreciate the support of this investment in the future of our children and our community.”
The $109.5 million referendum will result in a 6.75 cent per $100 of valuation property tax increase, which will be implemented as the district sells its bonds. That would bring the total tax rate to $1.4575 per $100 of taxable assessed valuation, according to the district.
San Jacinto County election results have not been reported at this time. All results are unofficial until canvassed.
