Jason Bird has been chosen as chief financial officer for the McKinney Independent School District. The board of trustees approved the decision at their regular monthly work study meeting Oct. 19.
Bird has nearly 20 years with MISD and has served as the district’s senior director of finance since 2005.
The search for a new CFO began in September after current CFO Edd Bigbee announced his plan to retire in December.
Bird will oversee all district finances, including but not limited to budget, payroll, debt management and staffing.
He came to MISD in 1998 as an economics teacher at McKinney High School. Four years later, Bird took an administrative role as the assistant principal at Scott Johnson Middle School. He served as assistant principal until 2005 when he became senior director of finance for the district.
Prior to his service in MISD, Bird served as a math teacher at Cedar Hill High School and as a commodity trader and engineer. He holds a master’s degree in educational administration and a master’s degree in business administration from Texas A&M University–Commerce as well as a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from Texas A&M University in College Station.
