Jeffrey Woodard opened local eatery Wholly Cow Burgers in January 2011.[/caption]Wholly Cow Burgers owner Jeffrey Woodard has worked as a cook, a seller of Fredericksburg peaches, a restaurateur and a professional opera singer.
When the mood strikes him, he serenades customers with classic solos in the unlikely setting of the Zen Food Market attached to Wholly Cow.
He said his love of such creative pursuits resulted in his decision to open the restaurant in January 2011.
Sides at Wholly Cow include beets and green beans as well as french and sweet potato fries ($2.44 per basket). Much of the restaurant’s produce is from Fredericksburg-based Rocky Hill Orchards, which owner Jeffrey Woodard’s uncle owns.[/caption]Aside from burgers, popular menu items include the Fit Cross—a Paleo burger with portobello mushroom caps instead of buns ($9.59)—as well as the Wholly Cheesesteak Batman! ($8.25) and The Almighty Reuben ($8.25). Options also include salads and a children’s menu.
“The whole goal for me was to make it a neighborhood spot,” he said, noting Wholly Cow added more seating recently.
The business closed its downtown location this year when a developer took over the property, Woodard said. He said he hopes to expand the current site and open new locations.
