Mayor Dave Claunch announced Oct. 14 the West Lake Hills City Council will form a subcommittee to explore whether the city will adopt a short-term home rental ordinance.
“I want to find a reasonable balance. I feel there is work that can be done where there is a compromise between these interests.” -Mayor Dave Claunch
The subject is controversial among the residents of West Lake Hills, with many residents saying at the Oct. 14 meeting that short-term home rentals are disruptive to the community. Other homeowners told council that the homeowner has the right to allow short-term rentals. “I want to find a reasonable balance,” Claunch said about the opposing viewpoints. “I feel there is work that can be done where there is a compromise between these interests.” The subcommittee is comprised of council members Darin Walker and Stan Graham who will serve as chairpersons. The council is accepting applications for four additional members on the volunteer page of the city's website.   Interested individuals are encouraged to write a detailed cover letter in addition to their application. The subcommittee will be finalized at the Oct. 28 council meeting.
