1. Austin Parkway improvements


Construction on the improvements to Austin Parkway and Lakefield Boulevard in Sugar Land is ongoing. Alternating closures continue along Austin Parkway as part of the road and water pipeline improvements. Both southbound lanes of Austin Parkway are closed between Autumn Lakes and Commonwealth Boulevard. The northbound lanes are being used for two-way traffic until the southbound lanes are complete. Traffic will then be diverted to the southbound lanes while work is done on the northbound lanes. The project includes the reconstruction of a total of 2,803 linear feet of 8-inch concrete pavement and the replacement of a total of 3,000 linear feet of 12-inch water line. A 10-foot wide concrete trail on the northbound side of the roadway will also be constructed as part of the project.

2. Vicksburg Boulevard extension


Construction to extend Vicksburg Boulevard from Aldridge Drive to Lake Olympia Parkway in Missouri City is on schedule for completion by January. The contractor has started paving the roadway, and there are no lane closures as a result of the project. The project includes the construction of a mast arm turn signal and turn-lane improvements at Lake Olympia Parkway, a four-lane boulevard roadway, bicycle lanes in both directions, sidewalks, streetlights and accompanying drainage structures.

3. Williams Trace Boulevard improvements


The project to reconstruct Williams Trace Boulevard between Austin Parkway and Lexington Boulevard in Sugar Land will be completed in two phases. Phase 1 will rebuild the roadway from Hwy. 6 to Austin Parkway, and Phase 2 will cover Hwy. 6 to Lexington Boulevard. The final design for Phase 1 started in early August, and construction on Phase 1 is expected to begin sometime in fiscal year 2017. Phase 2 is scheduled for design in 2020. Final cost estimates for both phases have yet to be determined.

4. University Boulevard extension


The final portion of the University Boulevard extension in Sugar Land will be completed in two phases. The contractor started construction on Phase 1 of the extension in early August. A timeline for Phase 2 has not been determined. The full scope of the project calls for University Boulevard to be extended as a four-lane divided roadway from where it ends at Hwy. 90 to Stadium Drive adjacent to Constellation Field. Phase 1 of the project will extend the roadway from Hwy. 90 to approximately 1,000 feet north of the intersection adjacent to the Nalco Champion property. Phase 2 of the project will extend the roadway from the intersection adjacent to Nalco Champion to Stadium Drive, and will include the construction of a bridge over Oyster Creek. The entire project also calls for improvements to street signals, trails, sidewalks and drainage infrastructure.

5. Dulles Avenue bridge


Work to rehabilitate the Dulles Avenue bridge over Oyster Creek, north of the intersection with Plantation Colony Drive in Sugar Land, was completed in July. The bridge and 40 linear feet on either side of the bridge were rehabilitated as part of the project.

6. Industrial Boulevard reconstruction


At its Aug. 18 meeting, Sugar Land City Council approved a $324,250 contract with ARKK Engineers LLC to design the Industrial Boulevard reconstruction project. The roadway was identified by the city as a priority for potential road reconstruction due to increased heavy traffic and rapid deterioration. The project calls for the two-lane concrete roadway to be reconstructed between Hwy. 90 and Reed Road as a four-lane divided boulevard with one signalized intersection. The project also calls for improvements to drainage infrastructure. The design phase is expected to be complete by Jan. 31, at which point the project will be made available for contractor bidding. Construction on the project is expected to begin in April 2016 and take almost a year to complete.

7. Sugar Land Business Park


Work to reconstruct and rehabilitate several streets within the Sugar Land Business Park started in late April. The project calls for reconstructing and repaving areas of Julie Rivers Drive, West Airport Boulevard, Gillingham Lane and Jess Pirtle Boulevard as well as a section of Industrial Boulevard and Emily Court. Some additional locations such as a portion of Reed Road were added to the project, which extends the timeline for completion by 30-45 days. Alternate lane closures are expected on Reed Road through Sept. 29 while repairs to the roadway take place.

8. FM 2234 widening


Construction on the widening of FM 2234 from the Fort Bend Parkway to FM 521 in Missouri City is expected to begin in March. The 4-mile project will widen FM 2234 from the existing two-lane undivided roadway to a four-lane divided roadway with drainage ditches, a raised median and 12-foot shoulders. Texas Department of Transportation issued the contractor a notice to proceed on the project June 15, however, there is a 270-day delay clause on the project.
