The Hays County Commissioners Court will hold public hearings Sept. 10 and 15 to discuss the county tax rate, which has been proposed for $0.4670 per $100 of property valuation. The current tax rate is $0.4690 per $100 of property valuation. Although the rate is lower, it will actually generate more revenue because of rising property values throughout the county. Because the proposed rate for fiscal year 2016 would generate more revenue than the current rate the county is required by law to hold two public hearings. Residents are invited to share their opinion about the tax rate at the public hearing. For assistance or detailed information about tax calculations contact Luanne Caraway, Hays County tax assessor-collector, at [email protected], 512-393-5545 or from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday at the Hays County Government Center, 712 S. Stagecoach Trail, San Marcos. The public hearings will each be held at 1 p.m. at the County Courthouse, 111 E. San Antonio St., San Marcos, on the third floor in the Commissioners Courtroom.
