Missouri City has launched a new nationwide search for city manager applicants after City Council decided not to hire from its original group of finalists.

City officials said the city will continue to work with Strategic Government Resources—a recruiting organization for local governments—to fill the city manager role. City officials have not indicated a timeline for when the city intends to fill the position.

“This particular City Council wants to spend additional time and effort making sure the citizens get a chief administrative officer who will continue the city’s strong legacy of leadership,” SGR Senior Vice President Mike Tanner said.

SGR will utilize various organizations to promote the position across the U.S., such as the International City/County Management Association, according to city documents.

Missouri City began its search in March after its former city manager, Ed Broussard, accepted the same position with the city of Tyler. Assistant City Manager Bill Atkinson is acting as the city’s interim city manager.
