Katy council members unanimously voted to add three new emergency medical dispatch positions at the City Council meeting June 22.

During March 2015, city of Katy dispatchers received 6,693 calls, which was 3,314 more than March 2014, Brawner said.

One dispatcher will be hired this year with the city’s current budget, and two will be hired when next year’s budget is approved, Katy Mayor Fabol Hughes said.

The city of Katy also expanded its emergency services by authorizing a resolution to purchase a 2.69-acre strip of land located along the south line of Kingsland Boulevard for a new fire station. The city approved the purchase for up to $410,117 plus closing costs.

The $2.5 million fire station is in the design phase, Hughes said. Construction will begin in 60 to 90 days and should be complete in 2016.
