The Planning and Zoning Commission and City Council approved June 16 Wine Fusion Winery, a new winery that is expected to open in November on Main Street.

However, Grapevine Mayor William D. Tate said he does not want to see another winery on Main Street.

“We’ve created a lovely little family environment on Main Street, and if it’s approved this will be the fourth winery on Main Street in the past few months,” Tate said. “I don’t want to see any more wineries on Main Street. I don’t think it’s proper. I think it’s taking away from retail, and I don’t think all of these wineries can succeed together. It’s not Grapevine. We’re about family.”

At the joint City Council and P&Z meeting June 16, owner Nicholas Kaufman told city officials his winery would contain a retail section with art.

“The most unique thing about us, that none of the other wineries on Main Street offer, is a two-hour wine-making class,” Kaufman said. “We actually teach the consumer how to make the most popular wine blends out right now.”
