Residents and business owners in Travis County who had storm damage during Memorial Day weekend can apply for federal assistance, according to a June 7 Travis County Emergency Services news release.
Rain and flooding on May 23 and 25 affected many Austin-area residents, and there was one fatality reported in Travis County. The Travis County Commissioners Court recently discussed plans for cleanup and recovery, and the county is working with local, state and federal officials including the Federal Emergency Management Agency, or FEMA, to provide recovery services.
According to Travis County, even residents with insurance should register with FEMA because underinsured applicants could receive additional assistance after their insurance claims have been settled.
Individuals can register at
www.disasterassistance.gov or with their smartphones at
m.fema.gov. Applicants may also call 800-462-7585. Travis County residents can visit
