Total Wine & More will open a store in Sunset Valley May 21 at 5601 Brodie Lane and a second location later this summer at the former Toys R Us location in Lakeline Mall Plaza south of Cedar Park at 11066 Pecan Park Blvd., Ste. 117.

Ed Cooper, vice president of public affairs and community relations with Total Wine & More, said the Sunset Valley store will encompass about 28,600 square feet. The store will include a large showroom with beverage cabinets, walk-in wine and beer coolers, demonstration areas and tasting stations. The store will also include classrooms for wine and other beverage education for customers. Each room can also be reserved for free by nonprofit groups, he said.

“We want people to be able to come and linger and shop, and be immersed,” he said.

Work on the Sunset Valley store began in March and remodeling of the Lakeline Mall Plaza store began in late April. Cooper said the Lakeline store will include more than 31,000 square feet with wide shopping aisles and an emphasis on customer education and other amenities.

The Total Wine & More retail chain is based in Potomac, Md., and has eight locations in the Dallas and San Antonio metro areas. Cooper said the company found a ready market in Austin.

“[In Austin,] the demographics for wine consumption [and] fine wine lovers, craft beer lovers and artisanal spirits lovers are off the charts,” he said.

Cooper said Total Wine stores have about 8,000 types of wine, 3,000 spirits and 2,500 beers.

Both Austin stores will also offer locally made beverages as well as gifts such as cigars, he said.
