Changes are on the horizon along Barker Cypress Road south of Hwy. 290 as work continues on the Boardwalk at Towne Lake development.

Caldwell Companies is developing the mixed-use project that will feature waterfront dining, retail and office space near the corner of Barker Cypress and Tuckerton roads. Residents of Towne Lake will be able to ride their boats to the development, which will feature an area for boat slips when complete.

"This is a vision we've been planning for six or seven years, and it's great to see it come together," said Peter Barnhart, executive vice president and partner with Caldwell Companies. "The vision for the Boardwalk is something that doesn't exist in Cypress. It's a gathering place and a place for families to come, and it's something the Cy-Fair region has needed for a long time."

Caldwell Companies plans to deliver the shell space to tenants in August, which means the first restaurants are expected to open by late 2015 and early 2016.

"Currently under construction there's about 60,000 square feet of retail and 50,000 square feet of office," Barnhart said. "When it's fully built out, there will be about 160,000-200,000 square feet of retail and office space in this Boardwalk area. Another thing we're planning is a small boutique hotel."

A grand opening is planned for the second quarter of 2016 when the majority of tenants have opened. For more details on the project, visit www.caldwellcos.com.
