Steiner Strategic Stallions partake in math tourney A Steiner Ranch Elementary School student works out a math problem.[/caption] The Steiner Strategic Stallions, an extracurricular math team from Steiner Ranch Elementary School, is participating in the 2015 National Pentathlon. The Stallions won the 2014 state championship and are sending 85 students to the Texas-area tournaments, which kicked off with Division 1 kindergarten and first-gradersMarch 28. Divisions 2 and 3 second- and third-graders and fourth- and fifth-graders, respectively take place April 18 and May 2. Participants in the different divisions learn five strategic games involving computations, logical and scientific skills, and spatial and geometric reasoning. Each player must compete in all five games against students from other schools. "It is exciting to see our kids competing in academic tournaments at large stadiums with their parents in the crowd," Steiner Strategic Stallions founder Jacob Leffler said. "This shows our kids that their academic achievement is important and exciting to us."
