Representatives from Meals on Wheels Collin County attended the Collin County Commissioners Court Monday as the court voted to add the nonprofit to the jury option card—a list of organizations jurors can choose from to donate their daily stipend.
The organization receives yearly donations from Collin County to assist the elderly and homebound residents of the county by delivering meals to their home.
The organization has been in existence under the Collin County Committee on Aging umbrella since 1977 when three senior centers—in Farmersville, McKinney and Plano—served one hundred meals per day. The need for assistance grew and today, according to Meals on Wheels, 950 meals are served daily by delivery or at a congregate site in the county.
The addition of Meals on Wheels to the juror option will allow for more donations for the organization and will contribute to meals and meal deliveries.
