The restaurant is expected to open in the former Cedars Woodfire Grill location at 4710 Preston Road by June 1, said Nick Peterson, district manager for the small chain of Aw Shucks and Big Shucks locations. "We're hoping to be serving before crawfish season ends the end of June," Nick said. Aw Shucks offers a variety of seafood choices including fried shrimp, oysters, catfish, boiled shrimp, fish tacos, po' boy sandwiches and grilled scallops. Peterson said the house specialty is a shrimp cocktail, made with fresh shrimp, avocado, onion, cilantro, tomatoes and serrano peppers. Beer and wine is also offered. "We have a casual, beach-front atmosphere," Peterson said. "We say all that's missing is the beach." The restaurant will operate on an honor system, the way Aw Shucks locations have from the beginning, Peterson said. Patrons order at a counter, receive their food and then pay on the way out by telling the cashier what they ordered. "We're excited to be coming to Frisco," Nick said. "Come check us out and let's get to shuckin'." Peterson said his father, Robert, started the chain in 1983 "on a shoestring budget, to say the least," working to ready the Lower Greenville location mostly by himself because he could not afford workers. Peterson said Robert died 11 years ago and his mother, Jill, took over the restaurants. The Petersons have a total of four seafood locations—two in Dallas, one in Richardson and one in Lewisville—and is now concurrently opening the Frisco location along with another location in Plano at 6509 W. Park Blvd.—also a former Cedars Woodfire Grill location. The Aw Shucks restaurants are sister restaurants to The Blue Goose Cantina.
