Local church and community leaders gathered at RockPointe Church in Leander on Jan. 21 for the second annual Mayor’s Prayer Breakfast.

The Greater Leander Chamber of Commerce and other groups helped organize the event after a first prayer breakfast Jan. 7, 2014. Leander Mayor Chris Fielder said he wants the tradition to continue and help encourage Leander’s leaders, including City Council members. “We want to take the time to start out the year in prayer,” Fielder said. “Every decision that we make on council affects somebody, and that touches me very, very much.” Between messages and public prayers, Chuck Walker and the Jesus Country Show performed songs such as “I’ll Fly Away” and “Happy Trails.” In a short message, RockPointe Church Pastor Shayne O’Brien said people can learn how to pray by following the words of Jesus in the Bible. Public prayers were done by leaders such as Peter Horn, senior pastor of Hill Country Bible Church Leander; State Rep. Tony Dale, R-Cedar Park; Williamson County Place 2 Commissioner Cynthia Long; and Judge Edna Staudt, Justice of the Peace, Precinct 2. Each leader prayed for a specific group such as churches, families, city government, emergency officers and the military.
