The Magnolia Education Foundation awarded nearly 20 teachers and principals more than $22,000 in grants for innovative project proposals during the Jan. 12 Magnolia ISD board of trustees meeting.
Of the estimated 30 proposals submitted, nine grants were presented to MISD educators at four elementary schools, including Magnolia Parkway, Cedric C. Smith, Nichols Sawmill and Bear Branch. An additional grant was awarded to a secondary campus—Magnolia West High School.
"In classifying these grants, three are from the fine arts department, two are for English and reading, two are from the science department and three are from the math department, so we cover just about everyone," said Pam Rogers, board president of the Magnolia Education Foundation.
The grants will help fund MISD learning projects in subjects such as forensic science, anatomy, biology and geology, as well as literacy workstations and an interactive music whiteboard. The learning projects will benefit students in classrooms across the district with new technology and materials, Rogers said.
Deborah Rose Miller, MISD board of trustees president, commended Superintendent Todd Stephens during the meeting for his instrumental efforts in the foundation's creation about 14 years ago.
Established in 2001, the foundation aims to fund programs outside of the district's budget, provide additional learning tools and support the advancement of education in the community.
