KCCO Ability Field KCCO Ability Fields aims to make sports available to all levels of abilities.[/caption] Since KCCO Ability Field celebrated its ribbon cutting in Hutto in September, John Lorek, CTX Ability Sports executive director, said he has seen the benefits of having a sports field dedicated to special-needs children. Prior to the opening of KCCO Ability Field, Lorek hosted sporting events for special-needs children at multiple fields in Hutto, Taylor and Round Rock. However, he said having a home base with KCCO Ability Field has had a noticeable impact on the children. Now that we have our own place to call home, kids are starting to come out of their shells and enjoy themselves and have a great time, he said. The field has a thick padding beneath the artificial turf, which helps improve mobility for children with wheelchairs or walkers. In late September, KCCO Ability Fields received a $25,000 grant from the Meadows Foundation for an Americans with Disabilities Act-compliant restroom. Lorek is looking to raise an additional $25,000 to complete the facility and an ADA-compliant concession stand. Lorek said he then plans to work to raise $20,000 for a splash pad. 747 County Road 138, Hutto, 512-212-1259
