The city of Buda appears to have finalized the acquisition of property for its new city hall, public library and police station. Buda City Council must vote Jan. 6 to ratify the documents signed by City Manager Kenneth Williams in connection with the purchase of 8.6 acres on Main Street near downtown. The land will be bought from D.L. Jardine Foods, a food producer whose headquarters on Chisholm Trail is near the city's Stagecoach Park, according to the Buda City Council agenda for the Jan. 6 meeting. Buda city officials did not comment on the land acquisition pending the action at the Jan. 6 meeting to make the acquisition official. In November voters approved a total of $55 million in capital improvements in various city departments. More than $27 million will go to construction of a combined city hall and public library as well as a police station. The bond funds included money to make real estate transactions, according to the agenda for the Jan. 6 meeting. It is unclear how much was used to purchase the property. The Jan. 6 meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. in the Buda City Council Chambers, 121 Main St.
