Members of the community could learn more Dec. 9 about candidates Austin ISD is considering for its superintendent position.

Austin ISD's board of trustees met during the weekend to interview top candidates and is continuing to narrow down the list of 90 applicants. The board has now made tentative plans to present finalists to the community Dec. 9 and allow the public to ask questions of the candidates, board president Vincent Torres said.

He noted the board will meet again Dec. 1 and discuss more details, including whether it would be better to move the forum to Saturday, Dec. 13 instead. He said after the forum the board will decide on a lone finalist and announce that to the public as well.

"When we initially developed the calendar back in June we didn't know the dates of the runoff at that time so it just so happened that the date we originally thought we would make an announcement about [the lone finalist] would be the 15th of December," he said. "But because it's so close to the actually runoff date, the board is revisiting [that timing]."

In a Nov. 25 update to members of the AISD community, Torres said the event is tentatively scheduled to take place Dec. 9 at Lanier High School, located at 1201 Payton Gin Road.

Early next week, the district will provide more updates and may provide information about each of the top candidates ahead of the scheduled forum, Torres said.

The district will be closed Nov. 26–Nov. 28 for Thanksgiving break. More information about the superintendent search is available on the district's superintendent search website.
