The River Place Homeowner's Association board announced Oct. 17 that operators of a golf cart on River Place's public streets must have a valid driver's license, Vice President Wick Tobias said.

HOA staff consulted the Travis County Sheriff's Department, who interpreted state law as requiring golf cart operators to have a driver's license and be at least 16 years old, he said.

Numerous residents cited complaints over children driving golf carts in the neighborhood on the social networking website www.nextdoor.com.

Tobias said the HOA has jurisdiction to limit the age of golf cart drivers within the subdivision.

The HOA will be disseminating information about the decision, and traffic patrols will be enforcing the ruling, he said.
