Incumbent District 12 State Board of Education member Geraldine "Tincy" Miller by a wide margin defeated challengers Democrat Lois Parrott and Libertarian Mark Wester.

In Collin County, Miller had 66.36 percent of the vote to Parrott's 33.05 percent and Wester's 3.59 In Dallas County, Miller had 59.91 percent of the vote to Parrott's 39.91 percent and Wester's 3.18 percent.

Miller served in the position from 1984–2010 and was re-elected in 2012. Four of those years she served as board chairman. She also has served as board vice-chair and chaired the Student Committee on Instruction.

District 12 serves all of Collin County and a portion of Dallas County.
