Jodie Laubenberg beat out opponent Sameena Karmally for the State Representative District 89 seat, receiving 71.60 percent of the votes of the Nov. 4 election with 67 of 67 vote centers reporting.

The incumbent received 27,992 votes to Karmally's 11,105 votes.

According to early voting results, incumbent State Rep. Jodie Laubenberg is leading the race for the District 89 seat with 70.95 percent of the vote, or 16,619 votes. Challenger Sameena Karmally has 29.05 percent of the vote, or 6,804 votes.

Laubenberg has served district 89 in the Texas House of Representatives for 12 years and according to information on her website, she has authored legislation to protect women, help infrastructure for roads and water resources and ensure the state's education system is top ranked.

Karmally is a long-time Texas resident and received a master's degree and a law degree from the University of Texas at Austin. She currently engages in community involvement by serving on local boards and volunteering with local nonprofits.

District 89 represents Collin County.
