The board of trustees for Collin College selected an interim president and new board member during the Oct. 28 meeting.
Colleen Smith, the college's senior vice president of Academic Affairs and Student Development, was selected as the interim president. She will begin her new role Nov. 10.
"I am honored, and I am thrilled to work with my colleagues to really continue the momentum and continue the great legacy of this college and make new things happen," Smith said.
Smith will take over for current President Cary Israel, who announced his resignation in September. The board will hold a national search for the next district president.
Smith has been with the college since 2010. In Smith's absence from her current role, various staff will take over her duties, she said.
Steve Cone, a Frisco resident and Frisco ISD teacher, was selected as the board member for Place 7. Cone, who also serves on the Frisco Comprehensive Plan Advisory Committee, will be sworn in at the next posted meeting, board chairman Mac Hendricks said.
Cone will replace former board member Tino Trujillo, who retired earlier this year.
Cone said he is grateful for the opportunity to serve the students of Collin County.
"I want to help [the college] stay strong and stay out in the forefront of education as education changes," he said.
