According to unofficial results, Daniel Guerrero, John Thomaides and Jane Hughson have won their respective San Marcos City Council races.

Guerrero defeated challengers Jonathan Sorenson and Patrick Montgomery by procuring 3,798 votes, or 64.08 percent. Sorenson received 1,259 votes, or 21.24 percent, and Montgomery received 870 votes, or 14.68 percent.

Jane Hughson defeated incumbent Wayne Becak with 3,339 votes, or 57.11 percent. Becak received 2,508 votes, or 42.89 percent.

John Thomaides defeated challenger Mike Davis with 3,103 votes, or 53.88 percent. Davis received 2,656 votes, or 46.12 percent.

Guerrero said the perception of San Marcos CISD schools and Texas State University have changed greatly in the past four years, and he said he believes the city will be able to leverage those education assets to improve employment opportunities in San Marcos.

"I think the focus [for the next term] is the same it's always been," Guerrero said. "Improving the San Marcos community when it comes to job creation and infrastructure. I think the next two years will also include a significant focus on public safety."

Hughson said she plans to focus on "fine tuning" the preferred scenario amendment process, which allows property owners to request variances from the document that guides how dense a development in a certain area can be, among other things.

"I support the process for the preferred scenario amendments. I support that process. I like the transparency of it. All that's good," she said. "The problem is that when someone comes in and applies, all we know is [if the project is] medium or high density. Personally, I want to know more before I vote on it. That process needs some fine tuning."

All results are unofficial until canvassed.
