More than 10,000 people are expected to attend the sixth annual Howl-O-Ween Fest in Bridgeland on Oct. 25 featuring animal performances, a pet costume contest and more than a dozen food trucks.
The Olate Dogs, the 2012 winners of "America's Got Talent," will also be at the festival for performances at 11 a.m. and 2:45 p.m. Richard and Nicholas Olate have performed at various NBA halftime shows and circuses across the country since appearing on the TV show.
"They'll have three or four poodles ride on a scooter or jump over hoops and the animals do it without a cue—it's like they have an understanding of the synchronization of the pattern," said Audrey Roeder, public relations coordinator for Bridgeland. "They're a fascinating group to watch because you can tell the Olates are fantastic about training the dogs."
David Chicken will also perform with his 4-pound Chihuahua during the festival, along with the Splash Dogs, who will perform dock diving competitions on the lake in Bridgeland.
"If you're an animal lover, it's a one-stop shop for you," Roeder said. "If anyone is looking for an animal, they can meet all the rescue groups and hear their stories and potentially go home with a new pet."
Guests are welcome to bring their dogs to the event if they are on a leash and up-to-date with their vaccinations.
"One of the big draws for the event is a costume contest and fashion show we do every year," Roeder said. "We always get unique entries as a lot of dogs dress in-synch with their humans."
Although admission to the event is free, some activities like pumpkin decorating and face painting come with a small charge. Money raised at the event will go toward animal rescue groups who are participating in the event.
Howl-O-Ween Fest is from 10 a.m.–4 p.m. at Oak Meadow Park in Bridgeland. Guests can park at Cypress Ranch High School and take a shuttle to and from the event throughout the day.
