New restaurant St. Philip will officially open to the public Oct. 2 at 4715 S. Lamar Blvd.
Staff members have been selling St. Philip's pastries on weekends at the Sustainable Food Center Farmers Market at Sunset Valley since August and the company is finally opening its brick-and-mortar location on South Lamar Boulevard.
The restaurant will launch with its full menu, Executive Chef/partner Philip Speer said.
"We have had a good 10 days or so to work out some of the service execution kinks and we're not 100 percent there, but we're getting there," Speer said. "I'm excited about the reception that we've had so far. It's been mostly positive, which is very good. I'm happy with the staff and how training has been going, and we're super happy to be part of the area."
The restaurant's menu will feature pizzas as well as bakery items. Speer said his favorite pizza on the menu is the St. Philip pizza, which features a white sauce, clams and bacon jam. Another entre is the B.E.L.T., which features bacon, an egg, lettuce and a fried green tomato slice on house-made brioche Texas toast. The menu also includes chicken meatballs, which Speer likes with the house-made "brodo" sauce and Smashed Potatoes.
The restaurant features a pizza bar so customers can watch bakers in action as well as patio space.
Stouthaus Coffee Pub opened recently next door. Speer said he hopes community will embrace St. Philip's debut as well as Stouthaus and other businesses that come into the former Cannoli Joe's space.
"It's an exciting time," he said.
