A Buda video game company launched an online fundraising campaign Oct. 1.
Jason Patterson, president of Dolphin Entertainment, said the company he founded in February 2012 is seeking funds to expand its operations. The company's game "Flashback!" is currently on the Google Play marketplace available for Android smartphones.
Patterson's company will aim to grow its workforce from a team of four working for Dolphin Entertainment on the side to having full-time employees and, eventually, a brick-and-mortar studio.
"Right now it's a matter of steering the company toward what it can create as it grows," he said. "The idea, or the road map, is to build the company so that it can take on the rest of the large projects."
The Buda native said his game developing company has not developed as fast as he would like in its first two years in existence. By launching a campaign on the crowd-funding site Kickstarter, that process could be accelerated, Patterson said.
Funds must exceed $20,000 for Dolphin Entertainment to fulfill the rewards it has promised in exchange for donations. If the company breaks that threshold, it will receive money. If the funding goal is not met, contributors to the campaign will not be charged.
The company is offering a variety of rewards for making contributions. By pledging a minimum of $5 to the campaign, a contributor could receive digital wallpapers, iPhone cases and game mode-themed toilet paper.
An admittedly off-the-wall reward, themed toilet paper gives Dolphin Entertainment a pole on which to fly its "different" flag, Patterson said.
"At its core, we are trying to make this a company that stands out as being different," he said. "[We aim to focus] on providing value to gamers rather than focusing close on our bottom line. Our goal is to continue to ... veer away from doing things how they have already been established."
