Missouri City The city held two public hearings on the proposed 2015 tax rate of $0.565 in September. City Council will vote to approve the proposed rate at its Oct. 6 regular meeting.
"Over the past five years, city revenue has changed from more than 80 percent residential and roughly 20 percent commercial to a 70–30 percentage," Mayor Allen Owen said.
Owen said this shift reflects an 11 percent increase in tax values from last year—more than $600,000 of additional revenue.
Revenue generated by the proposed tax rate will allow the city to fund its 2015 budget, which was approved at the June 16 regular meeting, and fund several items the city was unable to purchase previously.
Additional items include a $625,000 fire truck, $96,075 for an in-car camera project, a $94,780 audio recording system, and $108,231 for Phase 2 and 3 of an advanced communication system for first responder vehicles, Finance Director Wes Vela said.
