Patika Coffee, LLC officially opens its new brick-and-mortar location Sept. 26 at 2159 S. Lamar Blvd.
The company started as a food trailer in Central Austin in 2010. Owner Andy Wigginton said he had previously worked in the software industry and had recently begun drinking "better coffee."
"In my classification system there is bad coffee, there is drinkable coffee and there is good coffee," he said.
Patika uses beans from roasters including Austin-based company Cuvee Coffee.
"We started out just wanting to make good coffee and see if we could do it, and the surprising thing was the fact that you could become friends with these people and now we have a whole bunch of friends who used to be customers at the cart," he said.
The new brick-and-mortar location will serve a variety of espresso drinks and brewed coffee options, as well as house-made pastries such as scones and muffins. Patika will also offer beer and wine, Wigginton said. The location is open from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily and will extend its hours starting at the end of next week to Mon.–Thur., 7 a.m.–10 p.m.; Fri.–Sat. 7 a.m.–midnight and Sun. 7 a.m.–8 p.m.
"We love the hospitality and community aspect of what we are doing; the idea of hanging out and chatting with people over coffee or beer or wine was the thing that really surprised us and [is] why we ultimately decided to open a brick-and-mortar space," he said.
