Several months after the opening of Hanan's Caf off Hwy. 290, the farm-to-table eatery seems poised to become a staple in the Cy-Fair community.
Owner Amy Vasquez said she founded the cafe with inspiration from her mother, Dalma, who passed away in 2013. Vasquez named the restaurant after her own 13-year-old daughter.
Vasquez, who also helped start and run the nearby d'Vine Wine Bar, said the success of the wine bar made her realize how eager people in the surrounding area were to take advantage of local options.
"A lot of our clientele already knew us from d'Vine," she said. "That really helps when you're just starting out."
The menu includes breakfast and lunch items as well as gourmet coffee from the Houston-based Greenway Coffee, wine, beer and desserts. Menu options change with the season as a result of a dedication to keep things fresh, Vasquez said.
The menu puts an emphasis on healthy options, including gluten-free choices and veggie plates. Among the most popular dishes is the Lox Box, a breakfast plate with smoked salmon on a rye bagel with dill cream cheese and spinach.
"What I've found is that the locally produced stuff is also better quality. That's what we want our customers to expect from us," Vasquez said.
