The Texas Department of Transportation is hosting three open house events Sept. 9–11 to unveil proposals for improving mobility on I-35.

The proposals are part of an ongoing Planning and Environmental Linkages study in the agency's Mobility 35 program. That program is studying I-35 in Travis County between SH 45 N and SH 45 SE to recommend short- and long-term solutions for I-35.

The PEL study specifically is analyzing the Future Transportation Corridor, which would add one lane in each direction on I-35. During the open house events, the public will be able to view proposed alternatives for the FTC and submit feedback.

Open house events

  • Sept. 9 from 5–7:30 p.m. at the Atkins High School cafeteria, 10701 S. First St.
  • Sept. 10 from 5–7:30 p.m. at the Frank Fickett Scout Training and Service Center, 12500 N. I-35
  • Sept. 11 from 5–7:30 p.m. at the Kealing Middle School cafeteria, 1607 Pennsylvania Ave.

In June residents were able to weigh in on the purpose and need of the FTC and what type of lanes it would be, such as general purpose, HOV or tolled lanes.

A virtual open house will run Sept. 9–22 at www.mobility35.org where residents may view the same information presented at the in-person open house events.
