Officials agreed to decrease the maximum city property tax rate for the 2015 fiscal year by 3.46 cents per $100 valuation.
The new property tax rate of 53.9 cents per $100 valuation will provide tax relief to many Pflugerville residents, but residents may still pay higher property taxes because the average city home value appreciated by 8 percent in the past year. The median Pflugerville home value is $172,045.
"With this proposed 3.46 cent reduction, we have now reduced the property tax rate by 10 cents in 11 years, and it's a beautiful thing," Mayor Jeff Coleman said.
This marks the 11th consecutive year Pflugerville has lowered its property tax rate. Last year the city lowered its property tax rate by 2.04 cents, which was at the time the largest decrease in 10 years.
Homeowners will also pay property taxes to Travis County, Pflugerville ISD, Travis County ESD and the Travis County Healthcare District.
The public may provide feedback on the tax rate at a Sept. 9 meeting at 7 p.m. and a Sept. 16 meeting at 6 p.m. The city is expected to finalize the 2014–15 budget and tax rate Sept. 23.
