Travis County Commissioners Court decided not to increase the salaries of elected officials in the 2014–15 fiscal year budget.
The court unanimously approved the decision Aug. 12 as well as motions approving a calendar for budget action and establishing a grievance committee to address salary issues.
Recent county actions—such as avoiding cost increases for employee benefits as well as seeing higher-than-expected revenue projections—have resulted in a $4.3 million savings reserve in the 2014-15 budget, Assistant Budget Director Diana Ramirez wrote in an Aug. 4 letter to the court.
The preliminary budget for FY 2015 includes no salary increases for county employees.
The county's Planning and Budget Office drafted options for the court to consider if commissioners wanted to use the reserve to offer $750 or $1,000 annual raises to full-time employees. The court took no action on the options.
