A filmmaking and cinematography professor from The University of Texas is preparing a sneak peek of her new documentary.

"Canine Soldiers," which features footage of U.S. Army soldiers and their dogs in battle, is directed and produced by Nancy Schiesari. A 12-minute clip of the film will be previewed at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 4 at the Austin Public Library's Carver Branch, 1161 Angelina St.

The event will also feature a panel of three trainers and handlers from Ft. Hood and a discussion about the use of trained military dogs in combat—both during present day and during World War II.

"We can't use our own technology to protect our soldiers. We need dogs and soldier handlers to keep all our soldiers safe," Schiesari said in a statement on the film's website.

A release date has not yet been set because the film's production is still underway.
