The Austin ISD board of trustees is scheduled to vote Aug. 26 on a profile outlining qualities members of the community want to see in a new district superintendent.
AISD's superintendent profile will serve as a guide for Ray & Associates Inc., the firm the district hired to help conduct the search, as it promotes the job and narrows down the pool of applicants.
Ray & Associates developed the draft document based on community input and more than 1,500 completed surveys, according to AISD. At its Aug. 18 meeting, the board is scheduled to discuss survey results and the draft profile.
Community members told the district they want a superintendent who is willing to listen to input, but is a decision maker; has the leadership skills needed to respond to the challenges of a diverse community; can lead AISD through the legislative process; and inspires trust. According to the draft profile, the salary will be in the $300,000 range, along with a "comprehensive" benefits package.
The deadline to apply is Sept. 22. The board plans to hold initial interviews in mid-October and a second round of interviews in November. The district will host public forums in November with the finalists and aim to take action on a contract by Dec. 15 with the new superintendent.
