Hundreds of low cost, slightly used clothes, toys and home dcor items line the shelves of Resale with a Purpose, a nonprofit donation and resale center that gives 100 percent of its proceeds back to various organizations in the Tomball area.

"There's a whole need in this community for people to be able to buy clothes and goods at a very reasonable price," said Jason Arcemont, board member with Resale with a Purpose. "So when you see a young mom come in there with three or four kids and she's able to buy shirts and shorts for her kids for 99 cents, that's really magical."

Brad Bartlett, board president at Resale with a Purpose, said the inspiration for the nonprofit organization was born after he visited a large-scale resale shop in Arlington about four years ago. Bartlett returned from Arlington with a mission to find a similar-sized facility for a resale shop but had a difficult time finding a suitable location. Instead, Bartlett decided to start small with a plan for growth in mind. Resale with a Purpose opened its doors in August 2010 at a 600-square-foot facility along Main Street in Tomball.

After establishing a foothold in the community, Resale with a Purpose upgraded to a 2,000-square-foot facility in 2011 and doubled in size with its relocation in January 2014 to the Four Corners Shopping Center. The store accepts new and gently used items ranging from clothes to furniture, which are displayed and sold in the showroom.

"What we wanted to do is give an ongoing vehicle to the community that keeps giving and giving and giving," Bartlett said. "When we left that space on Main Street to come over here, we predicted it would cost $30,000 to move. Salem Lutheran Church donated $20,000 to help us. The pastor comes in here a lot, and he's very proud of what we've been able to do already."

As part of its mission, the organization donates 100 percent of its proceeds by allocating at least $5,000 to a different nonprofit organization in the area each month. The self-funding organization is run by a volunteer board of directors, about eight part-time workers and several other volunteers.

Bartlett said Resale with a Purpose has given $32,000 this year to local organizations such as Boys and Girls Country, Tomball Pregnancy Center and Abandoned Animal Rescue. The organization plans to raise and donate a total of $60,000–$100,000 to local nonprofits by the end of 2014.

"That's why if you ask me, 'do you believe you'll get to $1 million a year,' I believe truly we will," Bartlett said.
