NorthGate Constructors, the firm overseeing ongoing work on FM 2499 near Grapevine Mills, said lane closures will be halted for the Labor Day holiday, but the state's sales tax holiday weekend is another story.

For Labor Day, NorthGate spokesman Kristen Steig said a "no lane closure" period will run from noon Aug. 28 to 10 p.m. Sept. 2.

"That's great news for businesses that are planning on doing any sort of promotions during that time, and for the mall," Steig said.

She conceded that the annual sales tax holiday Aug. 8–10 is not on track for similar treatment, though NorthGate is "very aware" of the need to get information out on what delays and closures will be in place that weekend well in advance.

"We've talked about that at our staff meeting," Steig said. "We plan to talk as a group with [the Texas Department of Transportation] on limiting closures to only closures that are absolutely needed for that weekend."

She said NorthGate will have a definite list of closures within a week before the tax holiday, and a somewhat solid idea about two weeks ahead of the tax-free shopping event.
