Miguel Ancira has decided to end his campaign for Austin City Council District 3, he told supporters in an email message July 15.

In 2013, Austin's Independent Citizens Redistricting Commission established the boundaries of the city's 10 new voting districts. Starting with the November elections, City Council members will be elected in those geographic areas, while the mayor will still be elected at-large.

Ancira was one of nine candidates running for the seat for District 3, which includes some parts of South Austin and Southeast Austin. In the running for District 3 are Susana Almanza, Mario Cantu, Julian L. Fernandez, Shaun Ireland, Fred L. McGhee, Eric J. Rangel, Sabino "Pio" Renteria, and Ricardo Turullols-Bonilla.

"God has blessed me with the opportunity to give back which is why my interest is to always seek to help the advancement of our culture and values," Ancira said. "I will actively continue to find ways to support the development of our economy, education and the integral intellect of our community."
