The Grapevine Chamber of Commerce is accepting applications for the 2014-2015 Leadership Grapevine Class, with classes to begin Aug. 21.
Since 1988, the Leadership Grapevine program has offered individuals an opportunity to develop knowledge of the city, its relationship with Dallas-Fort Worth and for students to gain personal leadership training.
People come to Leadership Grapevine to learn more about the city and to seek leadership roles in a variety of avenues, said Michael Miori, director of business development for the Chamber of Commerce. The program equips participants to seek leadership roles within their businesses, corporations, volunteer groups or the community. He said the students become partners with the rest of the class throughout the year.
"[Students] get to spend one day a month for nine months with the same people," Miori said. "[They] just build an amazing bond."
While the program is run by the Chamber, Miori said alumni provide feedback after graduation. They also plan, put together and teach classes for future students.
There is space for 25 participants in the program, and each are selected through an application process to ensure a mix of individuals who reflect the city's diversity and represents an accurate cross section of Grapevine.
Miori said the program is open to anyone but participants must be available to attend sessions, which run from 8 a.m.–5 p.m. one day a month from August to April. Graduation is scheduled to be in May at a Chamber luncheon.
Tuition is $400 before Aug. 8, and rises to $500 after. There are a limited number of scholarships, up to $250, available to those who may not be able to provide tuition.
