Update: Austin Animal Center had a "record-breaking" number of adoptions the weekend Kitty Palooza took place, according to a news release.

From July 12–13, 192 cats and 36 dogs were adopted.

"The people of our community time after time show how much they care about the city's homeless pets," Deputy Chief Animal Services Office Chris Noble said in a news release. "This past weekend just confirms this fact and we are so thankful and grateful to everyone who chooses to save a life."

Kitty Palooza may be the "purrfect" time to bring a furry new friend home.

Austin Animal Center will have hundreds of kittens and cats ready for adoption, free of charge. The seventh annual Kitty Palooza will take place 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. July 12 and 13.

"You get a microchip and ID tag in your animal, and the cat is already spayed or neutered and also all the first round of vaccinations as well. You can also get a collar and tag for your cat," said Kasey Spain, marketing and PR manager for Austin Animal Center.

The services the center has taken care of normally costs $200, according to Spain.

She said the center has had a recent influx of kittens, so they hope for a great turn out to help find these kittens a good home.

Those interested in adopting can speed up the process by filling out a form before arriving to the event and presenting it to a staff member when the adoption process begins.
