A new 330-unit apartment complex—West Lake Park Apartments—is expected to open at 11800 West Road in the fourth quarter of 2014. Judwin Properties is the developer of the complex, which is located at the northeast corner of Barker Cypress and West roads.

The project includes studio apartments, as well as one- and two-bedroom flats and two- and three-bedroom townhouses, Judwin's Marc Winograd said. Every one-, two- and three-bedroom floor plan will come with access to an attached garage.

Amenities of the overall complex will include a cabana with gas grills, playground and a community club house featuring a coffee bar, fitness center, pool and theater with stadium seating. The community will also be gated, Winograd said. Rents are anticipated to run from $775 up to $1,995.

The location of the apartment complex was strategically selected to cater to new residents to the area who are still looking for homes around Towne Lake and other master-planned communities, Winograd said.

"We look for good neighborhoods because a good number of our residents are people moving to the area, either looking for a home or waiting for their home to be built," he said.

Keith Edwards with Caldwell Companies, the development firm behind Towne Lake, said the area is primed for growth. Caldwell is leasing pad sites around the Barker Cypress and West Road intersection with the expectation that the apartment complex, as well as the upcoming Kroger, will create a demand for more retail in the area. A Popeye's restaurant recently opened, and Edwards said Express Oil, more fast food options and small retail should be opening by the end of the year.

"I think it will be a popular site because of the community park behind it," Edwards said of the apartment complex, referring to its proximity to Horsepen Creek Park. "People love to have a view of the lake."
