The Austin ISD board of trustees at its June 16 meeting unanimously approved the district's facility master plan, or FMP.

The FMP outlines how AISD buildings are used and will be a resource for the district as officials make decisions about capital improvements and future bond elections.

Trustee Ann Teich made the motion to approve the facility master plan.

"I'd like to thank our facilities staff, particularly those people who wrote the plan and incorporated all the many hours of suggestions from our community," Teich said. "I really appreciate the community for coming out on numerous occasions to contribute to this."

AISD held more than 110 public meetings about the FMP to gather community input.

Trustee Robert Schneider added an amendment that the plan should be reviewed six months from now and again one year from now; the board approved that amendment with a 7–1 vote. The FMP document previously stated the review cycle would be every two years.

"Particularly given our current budget situation, I think that there are things in here that we need to review and are probably going to need to do something about sooner rather than in a two-year period," Schneider said, citing boundary issues and overcrowding.
