At a reception in April, Pedernales Electric Co-op announced the names of the 14 Hill Country-area high school senior scholarship recipients.
Nearly 350 students applied for scholarships, which range from $2,500 to $10,000. Recipients were selected based on their applicant profiles, including academic performance, community involvement, extracurricular activities and financial need.
Applicants also were evaluated on an essay in which they were asked to identify a person, nonprofit organization or special-interest group dedicated to serving the community and to explain how the group has helped influence them.
Hunter Connor of Lake Travis High School received a $5,000 scholarship. Rochelle Forni of Westlake High School and Johnnie McElroy of Lake Travis High School both received $2,500 scholarships.
"By helping our local students pursue their educational goals, we are investing in their future, as well as the future of our local communities," said Eddie Dauterive, PEC vice president of member services and scholarship committee president.
