HitMaker Music School is hosting an outdoor summer concert series open to the public in the heart of Old Town Leander.

Recitals are planned for June 20, July 18 and Aug. 22 from 7–9:30 p.m. The first performance on May 9 drew about 120 audience members, HitMaker Music School owner and director Mike Irene said.

"It's so much fun for everyone to be out in the back yard visiting and enjoying the music from our students and friends under the red oak," he said.

The music setlist for the June 19 event includes "You Were Always on My Mind" by Willie Nelson, "Breakdown" by Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers, "I Dreamed a Dream" from the musical "Les Miserables" and Bob Marley's "Three Little Birds," among others. About 25-30 students will perform primarily in ensembles or small groups, Irene said.

"The songs we'll play are diverse and from songwriters from different eras and certainly a lot of different genres," he said. "We have music from jazz standards to Broadway, classic rock and also Christian music."

The events are sponsored by the Leander Public Library and cost $2 per person. Snacks will be sold and guests can bring a chair or blanket. Irene said the recitals are a way to share music with the community and meet potential new students.

HitMaker Music School is located at 208 S. Brushy Street, Leander, and offers lessons in guitar, bass guitar, piano, voice and percussion.
