A new program will allow Austin ISD students the opportunity to see some productions at the Long Center for the Performing Arts at $5 a pop.
On May 29, Austin ISD and the Long Center launched eyeGO to the Arts, which gives AISD high schoolers with ID the opportunity to pay $5 per ticket to attend all "Long Center Presents" productions.
In 2000, the Long Center's Jamie Grant, executive director and CEO, launched eyeGO to the Arts in Canada, where he was general manager of the Centre in the Square theater. AISD and the Long Center are the first to bring the program to the U.S.
"The most fulfilling thing I can do in my job at the Long Center is to make our programming more accessible to more people," Grant said in a news release. "This is how we engage a new generation and foster an appreciation for the arts. In the end, our community will be so much better for it."
Students will be able to buy the best seats available, including front-row seats, and eyeGO tickets will be available when ticket sales open, according to AISD.
