The Greater Austin High School Musical Theatre Awards ceremony, held April 17 at the Long Center for the Performing Arts, honored several local high school musical theater groups and students.



Among the 15 major categories awarded, Westlake High School won the Best Technical Execution award for "West Side Story," Jamie Molina won the Best Actress in a Lead Role award for St. Stephen's Episcopal School's "Little Women" and Martha Ruby Clark won the Best Featured Performer award for Vandegrift High School's "South Pacific."



The winners of Best Actor and Best Actress awards are eligible to compete in the annual National High School Musical Theatre Awards held during the summer in New York City.



In addition to the awards, more than $30,000 in scholarships was awarded, with 10 students receiving $1,000 in cash scholarships. Six students also received scholarships to summer intensive programs at local production facilities.



Local students receiving cash scholarships include: Saarah Hassoun and Conor Donnelly, both of St. Stephen's Episcopal School; Olson Kelly, Vandegrift High School; and Holly Gibson, Westlake High School.



Kat Brimmer of Lake Travis High School received a summer intensive scholarship to Zach Theatre.



Each participating school received a check for $500 as an investment in next year's productions.
