Narvaiz wins San Marcos CISD seat

Posted 9:10 p.m. CST

According to unofficial results, Naomi Narvaiz will succeed David Castillo in the Place 1 seat on the San Marcos CISD board of trustees.

Narvaiz defeated Danny Gonzales with 60.34 percent of the vote, compared with her opponent's 39.66 percent.

"I'm very humbled by the trust that the people of [Place} 1 have given me. I'm very happy, of course. I had a great team of people. This is a win for our entire school district," she said.

Narvaiz and Gonzales finished with 178 votes and 117 votes, respectively.

"I thank everybody who supported me," Gonzales said. "I'll continue supporting the district and hope she does a good job."

Narvaiz will serve a three-year term.

All results are unofficial until canvassed.

According to unofficial results, Naomi Narvaiz is leading Danny Gonzales in the race for the Place 1 seat on the San Marcos CISD board of trustees with 62.63 percent of the vote, compared with Gonzales' 37.37 percent. Narvaiz and Gonzales have received 124 votes and 74 votes respectively.

"I'm very pleased," Narvaiz said.

Narvaiz said she is proud of her campaign and looks forward to hearing the final results.

Narvaiz has served on the Hays County Food Bank board of directors, the Ethics Review Commission for the city of San Marcos and is the precinct chair for the Hays County Republican Party.

Gonzales, who was at one of the city's polling locations today, said he estimated there were about 100 people who showed up to vote on election day.

"It's been a good campaign," he said. "We've both worked hard. It was pretty low turnout today."

The Place 1 seat came open when trustee David Castillo announced earlier this year that he would not seek re-election.

All results are unofficial until canvassed.
