The Georgetown ISD board of trustees April 23 selected Bartlett Cocke General Contractors to build Elementary School No. 11 in Teravista near the intersection of FM 1460 and Westinghouse Road.
Trustees approved a nearly $17.2 million contract with the construction companyto build the more than 101,000-square-foot elementary school campus.
Bartlett Cocke has a very good reputation, not just with schools but with some of the construction you see out there with municipalities, board of trustees member Greg Eady said. Thats important. That reputation is really strong. Im impressed with that, and Im glad to see us get the opportunity for them to come help us out.
The contract includes the construction of six classrooms to be used for future growth, which would increase the campuses capacity to function with 925 students.
GISD Superintendent Joe Dan Lee said he recommended building in the added capacity because of the increasing costs of construction as the economy continues to rebound.
It wont be at capacity when it opens but the [cost of construction] will continue to escalate, Lee said.
The entire project, including furniture, fixtures, and equipment as well as permitting costs, is expected to cost approximately $19.4 million.
The projects funding comes from bonds approved by voters in 2010.
