Williamson County Commissioners willhold a public hearing on April 15 to hear feedback from residentsabout the votecenter program that allows residents to cast a ballotat any polling location in the county.
The hearing will be held during the regular session of Commissioners Court that begins 9:30 a.m. at the historic courthouse in Georgetown. After the hearing, the county will hold an open house for any further comments, said Connie Watson,Williamson County public affairs manager.
Counties are eligible tooffer vote centers after the Texas Legislature approved House Bill 758 in 2005. The vote centers are electronic and do not require voters cast a ballot at a specific polling location.
Williamson County received approval for the program in 2013. The county used vote centers during the May and November 2013 elections by applyingwith the Texas Secretary of State office. If the Williamson County program is officially designated successful, the county can conduct votes without such approvals, Watson said.
The voting centers will continue to be used inelections including forstate and county offices and proposed constitutional amendments, she said.
